The old proverb says that the Ungrateful never escape.
In life, we have all experienced hardships and it is because we neglect the attitude of gratitude. We all know that we should be grateful but it takes much more than that. There is nothing so powerful that can empty your pockets quicker than an ungrateful & cynical mind.
Let us explore the meaning of being cynical. It is believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity. Feeling or being cynical is likely triggered in part by our defense system and the root cause may be from being hurt or feeling angry at someone or something that has happened in our lives. Once this happens it can cause us to take on a self-righteous attitude triggering unrealistic expectations leaning towards a negative outlook and unreasonable fears. This negativity can be contagious.
Compassion counters cynicism by allowing us to feel our anger, pain, or frustration without taking these feelings to a negative place. In the dictionary, it describes compassion as motivating people to go out of their way to help the physical, spiritual, or emotional pains of another and themselves. So let us be forgiving and compassionate towards ourselves and others.
We create our world around us. Show compassion and be open and understanding to others to relieve ourselves of destructive attitudes which in return draws out the best in others around us.
